Illini Run Past Marquette
Updated:  04/07/2009 at 1:18 AM
Northbrook, IL -
On yet another bitterly cold day, the Fighting Illini (3-0) took the fields against the Marquette Golden Eagles (0-6).  Despite this being the first game in nearly 2 1/2 weeks for the Illini, they rubbed off some early rust and took control from the beginning.  From the very first minute, the Illini scored and never looked back.

Quick goals by Scott Pfiffner and Stephen Black set the pace early as the Illini took a hefty lead into halftime.  The entire Illini team got playing time as the goals came early and often.  Junior Jimmy Driscoll and Senior Nate Prescott led the way with a hat-trick each.  The Illini coasted to a 10-0 margin before allowing their first goal during the end of the game.

Strong play in the net by Eric Rakoczy, Joe Lucido, Curt Peterson, and Anthony Majewski, along with lockdown defense by Phil Dodson, Mike Howlett, Neal Sullivan, Jeremias Perez, Matt Gruber, and Chris Holmes.

The Illini will depart for Texas this weekend, en route to a challenging but exciting few matchups against Texas and Texas A&M.
